Flexo® Clean Cut® FR Braided Sleeving Logo

Techflex® Flexo® Clean Cut® FR Braided Sleeving

Flexo® Clean Cut® braided expandable sleeving is ideal for field installers and other situations where access to a hot knife is either impractical or impossible. Clean Cut's fray resistant properties allows frequent expansion at the cut end without fraying or unraveling. When cut with a hot knife, this braid provides a smooth, virtually frayless end. Clean Cut® is braided from 8 mil PolyEthylene Terepthalate (PET) monofilament yarns specially engineered to create a fray resistant end without artificial binders or other additives. Clean Cut® FR has all of the same qualities that make standard Clean Cut® so easy to cut and install, with the added advantage of a flame inhibitor to provide an extra level of safety in certain applications. Under normal conditions, Clean Cut® FR will quickly self-extinguish and minimize flame spread and incidental damage to surrounding components. The combination of flame retardance, ease of installation and nearly complete coverage makes Clean Cut® FR an ideal solution for many industrial and engineering applications.

Optional Braided Sleeving Custom Services

Splice Free Spooling: Some splices are normal during the braiding process. Usually, not more than one or two splices will be on any given spool. Ordering splice-free spools guarantees the maximum continuous yield on your spools. This option is suggested when ordering large lengths of sleeving or for important and precise projects. This treatment is most applicable in lengths that exceed 100 feet. In general, shorter lengths will be splice free as they come off the spools.

Braided Sleeving Rounding Services Before & After

Rounding: Flexo® Rounded is a premium process where Flexo® products are rounded for improved aesthetics, spring, and installation time. Rounding braided sleeving can retain its form for the lifetime of the product. It is commonly used in both retail and medical applications. Rounding services require a minimum spool length of 25 ft. NOTICE: Longer lengths of product may lose some of its shape when applied to or shipped on a spool. Adding the rounded option may increase the processing time of your order by up to 48 hours. Rounding services also require a minimum length of 25 ft. Not Available in all diameters.

What Does ‘Flame Retardant’ Mean?

Flame retardant refers to a substance or material that is designed to resist or delay the ignition and spread of flames. Flame retardants work by interrupting the chemical reactions that occur when a material is exposed to heat or flames. They can prevent or slow down the release of flammable gases, reduce the amount of oxygen available for combustion, or create a protective layer that shields the material from the fire.

Flame Retardant Vs. Non-Flammable

Flame retardant: These materials are designed to resist flames and prevent or slow the spread of fire. These materials are treated with special chemicals that react to heat and flames, creating a barrier that can help protect against fire and reduce the risk of damage or injury.

Non-Flammable: These materials are those that do not burn or ignite at all, even when exposed to heat or flames. These materials may be made from special types of metals or other materials that have a very high melting point or are inherently resistant to fire.

Tips for Installing & Terminating Braided Sleeving

determining the diameter of your wire bundle
How To Determine What Diameter Sleeving You Need

Bundle the cords that you’ll be covering and measure the diameter of the bundle. If you want a snug fit, choose a braided sleeving option with a slightly smaller diameter than that of your cables. If you want a loose and flexible fit, choose a braided sleeving option with a diameter that is equal to or slightly larger than that of your cables. Keep in mind that braided sleeving loses 2% to 3% of its length when it expands. Be sure to plan accordingly!

How To Terminate Sleeving with Heatshrink Tubing

Heatshrink Tubing is the ideal way to create a tight, professional finish on any wire, hose or cable management project. Once shrunk, the tubing will hold its reduced state, even at elevated temperatures. This application can be used to protect, color code, brand, or secure ends or sections of braided sleeving. A Heat Gun is required to properly apply heatshrink tubing. You can find a guide to the proper technique for working with heatshrink tubing Here.

Installing Sleeving with Speed Sleeve
How To Install Sleeving with the Speed Sleeve Tool

The Speed Sleeve Tool eliminates the mind-numbing process of applying expandable sleeving to a cable bundle. With the Flexo Sleeving Rapid Install Tool, the process is dramatically speeded up, considerably reducing labor costs. The system is simple to set up and interchangeable components accommodate diameters up to 2". Simply slide the desired length of sleeving over the properly sized pipe, and insert the desired wires or cables. The machine will quickly unravel the sleeving over the application and give it a smooth finish.

How To Organize with Spools & Displays

Spool and product management is now more efficient than ever. Our display/dispenser rack allows easy control of sleeving and provides a controlled system of dispensing directly from the spools. The spools drop into the slots and turn freely for dispensing. Full visibility ensures easy management of remaining inventory and simple drop-in replacement of empty spools. The spools themselves can be used with or without the display racks, allowing for customized storage and easy use of long lengths of braided sleeving.

How to Choose The Correct Braided Sleeving

A lot of factors go into determining the correct braided sleeving wire protection method for your project. We’ve broken it down to help you narrow your search:

  • Operating Temp: Is your wire harness going to be regularly exposed to extreme temperatures or possible flames? The operating temperature of your harness is a critical consideration when choosing sleeving to ensure that the sleeving you select can withstand the intended environment and provide adequate protection.
  • Flexibility & Expansion Ratio: Flexibility is an important factor if your wire harness will be snaking around a lot of corners or curves or is frequently moving. Expansion ratio refers to the amount by which the diameter of a braided sleeving can increase when stretched. The expansion ratio of braided sleeving can vary depending on the material it is made of and the construction of the braiding.
  • Material: Braided sleeving is available in a wide range of materials to provide different levels of abrasion, UV, and chemical resistance. Material also effects wire harness weight, EMI protection, and flexibility.
  • Cutting Tool: Checking the recommended cutting tool for a sleeving product allows you to ensure you have the tools necessary for the job. If using a hot knife is not feasible for you, be sure to look for sleeving options that can be cut fraylessly with scissors.
  • Sleeve Vs. Wrap: If you are consistently changing the wires & cables of your harness then a split wrap may be a better option for you than a solid sleeving product to installation is fast & easy.
  • Industry & Environment:Techflex® braided sleeving products are organized into categories based on the most common uses of each product. If you work in a specific industry, visiting the corresponding product category may be a fast way to see applicable sleeving options for your project.
  • Color choices: Braided sleeving is great for matching, color coding, and to identify wires & cables. If color coding is your goal, make sure the product you are considering offers enough colors for your project.
