Getting usable compressed air out of your FastPipe system requires the right drop points and shutoffs, and RapidAir's lineup of valves and outlets makes it simple to add access wherever your shop or facility needs it. Wall outlets and thru-wall outlets let you bring a 1/2" air connection through a wall or partition cleanly, with select models featuring a built-in shutoff valve for added control at each drop point. Inline valve kits provide a way to isolate sections of your piping system for maintenance, expansion, or zone control without shutting down the entire system, and are available in sizes matching the full FastPipe diameter range.

For setups using MaxLine tubing, dual port outlets with built-in shutoff valves offer two independent 1/2" NPT connection points from a single drop, making it easy to run two tools or hose stations from one location. With inline valve kits and outlets available from 1/2" up to 6" nominal diameter, this category covers everything from a single-bay home shop to a multi-zone industrial compressed air system.

Determining The Diamater For Your Piping System

To choose the correct diameter of pipe for your system, you need to know how much flow rate (CFM) will travel through the pipe and how long your piping will be.

When choosing the correct diameter for your piping system, remember that a larger size does increase air flow. A larger diameter will actually drive the cost of the system up. Size your air system for the tools you will use, the compressor horsepower and the size of your building layout.

To maximize the flow rate for any of our piping systems, it is best to install your system as a loop. Starting at the air compressor and looping around your shop back to the compressor. This will increase flow rate, decrease pressure drop, and allow smaller line size to be used.

The thread size of the port on your air compressor tank does not determine the pipe size for your piping system. It is calculated with the length of your piping (building size) and air compressor CFM output. Even though the port on your tank may be small, the air is only traveling through a short distance, so the restriction is minimal. Air is only restricted over a long distance with small piping.

Here are some important facts to remember:

  • Compressed air gets restricted over long distances
  • Flow rate decreases the further it is from the air compressor
  • The longer distance the piping runs, the larger diameter of piping you will need
  • Larger size piping increases air flow, but also increases the cost of your system
  • Sizing down piping at the end of a run decreases flow rate and offers you no benefit

FastPipe® Installation

Care must be taken on any installation of the FastPipe system. Pipes will be carrying compressed air/gas up to 190 psi. The FastPipe system is only as safe as a thorough installation. Read all installation instructions and watch installation videos before starting. Below are some tips for a safe installation.

  • Assemble all NPT Pipe Threads with two wraps of teflon tape and then pipe sealant which prevents thread galling.
  • Support the pipe with clips / hangers a maximum of 10ft spacing and on one side of each fitting.
  • Any machine/compressor plumbed to the Fastpipe must have a jumper hose to reduce vibration.
  • Any piping system will expand and contract with temperature changes. Use expansion joints to compensate for this movement of aluminum pipe in non-conditional buildings.
  • Do not use Fastpipe for pulsing desiccant dryers or other like equipment.
  • Caution installing inert gas bulk tank systems, Gas must be wanrmed up to fastpipe temperature range.
  • Use a strain relief attached to the building or any rubber hose drops attached to the piping.
  • Do not connect quick couplings for air hoses to reducing elbows or tee fittings. The repeated connecting/disconnecting could loosen the fittings.
  • Check that all fittings are tightened before pressurizing the system for the first time.
  • For initial installation pressurize system slowly to 50psi and check for leaks, then pressurize slowly to max 190psi.
  • After 24 hours of being pressurized, depresurize the system and retighten the compression nuts. Some settling may have occured, this is not an optional step in installation, it must be done.
  • Make sure compressor output temperature does not exceed 140 Degrees farenheit.
